Gravel bike holiday in the Bucklige Welt

Expectations are high when a region is nicknamed the "Land of 1,000 Hills" - and expectations are easily exceeded in the Bucklige Welt in Lower Austria! The foothills of the Alps and the low mountain range provide the perfect setting for a gravel bike holiday in the Bucklige Welt. Gentle hills meet surprisingly winding roads in the Viennese Alps, a network of 250 kilometres of marked cycle paths meet picturesque panoramas, historic castles meet the Wechsel and the Semmering Pass. And all this just an hour south of Vienna and north-east of Graz.

Hill mania on a gravel bike holiday

In the border triangle of Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria, the route takes you along endless gravel paths through idyllic villages, dense forests and across endless meadows. A real insider tip for gravel fans. But there is also no shortage of winding roads, crisp climbs and rapid descents in the Bucklige Welt - after all, every gravel biker has two hearts beating in time. The rolling hills of the Viennese Alps offer roads off the beaten track and tours for every level.

Gravel bikers are drawn to the Hutwisch lookout point - from the roof of the Bucklige Welt, the view stretches as far as Hungary and Slovenia. But the most beautiful panoramic road in the Wechsel region also offers magnificent views over the Bucklige Welt and the eastern edge of the Alps: on the border between Styria and Lower Austria, you can cycle gently at first and then up to 980 metres above sea level. A gravel bike tour to Sankt Corona am Wechsel also offers the typical Bucklige Welt variety: via serpentines, smaller climbs and slightly undulating trails, the route leads to the Wexl Trails trail park on the Wechsel, down to the traditional spa town of Bad Schönau and back to Krumbach via the cycle path. Culinary highlights can also be found in the Viennese Alps - from the excellent Lower Austrian inns to award-winning toque-awarded restaurants.
