The southern wine route begins in the centre of the wine village of Kurtatsch, starting at the vineyard, the so-called "Ur-Rebe", in Margreid, which has been preserved since 1601. From there it continues to Kurtinig and Salurn, the southernmost municipality in the country with the largest closed white wine-growing area. Via Neumarkt, the route passes the mystical power town of Castelfeder. A challenging ascent to the Koyoten Pass awaits after Auer. Towards the end of the tour, the route leads across Lake Kaltern to Tramin. The autochthonous Gewürztraminer, which is produced here to the highest quality, was named after this village.
