Ponale
Until 1992, "Vecchia Ponale" was the only road connecting Riva del Garda with the Ledro Valley. The road, named after its creator Giacomo Cis, was closed to traffic in 1995 and reopened as a footpath in 2004. After the bridge over the deep gorge of the Torrente Ponale, the route continues uphill towards Pregasina. This second section is completely tarmac, but still accessible to pedestrians and cyclists as far as the statue of the Virgin Mary. The descent follows the same route as the outward journey, except for a short stretch suggested at the Pregasina exit. This turn-off has considerable gradients on a cemented surface; if you prefer to avoid them, simply stay comfortably on the route of the ascent. The terrain and gradients make this route accessible to all.
